The Maine Wild dropped two tough games over the weekend to the Jersey Shore Wildcats (25-0-0). In Saturday's game, the Wild lost a close game 6 to 4 and then drop the back half of the weekend series 5 to 1.
In Saturday's competition, the Wild went down 3-0 minutes into the second period. The Wild would score two quick goals (Drew Sommerhoff and Ryan Donohue) to pull the game to 3-2.
"When we scored those two quick goals I really felt the momentum had swung in our direction and we were starting to play the way I know we are capable of playing," Coach Mike Tenney said.
The Wildcats would respond with another goal to make the game 4-2.
"We were playing well and made a mistake that they took advantage of, our message on the bench was to keep generating chances and the goals would come." Tenney added.
Drew Lupardo and Ignat Molchanov would score before the period was over to even the score at 4 going into the third period.
"I know our team has the ability to score, recently it has come in bunches or they have not come at all. We scored 4 goals in 13 minutes today to stay in the game," Coach Tenney said.
In the third, Jersey Shore score twice and Maine had no answer although they had several really good opportunities.
"We came away from Saturday feeling that we had played well enough to win, we needed to fix somethings defensively and not allow them as many shots as they got, but all in all we had enough chances to win that game," Tenney would say of the loss.
Sunday was more of the same as the Wild would go down 2-0 after one period and then 5-0 after 2 periods.
"We just could not put the puck in the ocean in that game. We had enough grade A opportunities to score to stay in that game we just could not bear down and finish," Tenney said of Sunday's game.
Drew Lupardo would add the lone goal for the Wild on an assists from Ignat Molchanov and Zach Gagne.
The Wild play three more times before the NA3EHL winter break. Friday at 7:10pm in Cape Cod, Saturday at Home in Biddeford at 5:30pm vs Cape Cod and Sunday at 4:00pm in Salem NH against the East Coast Minutemen.
