Maine Wild & Biddeford Youth Hockey Announce Southern Maine Wave

The Maine Wild and Biddeford Youth Hockey are proud to announce a partnership to run and manage the Southern Maine Wave, the select hockey division of Biddeford Youth Hockey Association.

The programs will merge their resources to organize the Southern Maine Wave select teams at the Squirt, Pee Wee, and Bantam levels, as well as a number of U16 and U18 Midget teams.

The Maine Wild has fielded a junior hockey team, which competes in the NA3EHL, for the past two years, and this season kicked off its youth program with one independent U18 midget team.

Maine Wild Hockey Director Mike Tenney said the Wild organization is very excited about the opportunity to partner with the Biddeford program.

"The Wave will give us an opportunity to offer travel hockey in the Southern Maine area and have a chance to develop youth players while emphasizing the importance of being a good citizen within the community, learning teamwork, developing hockey skills on the ice and having a ton of fun in a family-like atmosphere," said Tenney.

Jim Mulligan, president of Biddeford Youth Hockey Association, said the partnership came about as the two organizations share a rink and are both looking to create energy around youth hockey in York County by offering expanded programming in the area.

"We have a successful Tier IV and 8 and under program, but we had not fielded select teams at the Squirt, Pee Wee, or Bantam levels," said Mulligan. "We were glad to find someone to partner with so we can focus our energy on bringing in new skaters and running our Tier IV programs, while our more accomplished players have the option to compete at a higher level."

Mulligan said Biddeford Youth Hockey Association is ready to hit the ground running and work with Tenney on the new Southern Maine Wave offerings.

"We're looking forward to seeing interest in the community sparked by having additional options available at Biddeford Youth Hockey," he said. "Mike Tenney has been a welcome addition to the area and to the hockey community in Southern Maine. We are looking forward to working with Mike and helping him build this program."

The Southern Maine Wave is seeking coaches at all youth levels. If interested, contact Tenney at or call 774-286-0690.

"The BYHA board has done a tremendous job running their Tier IV programs and we are looking forward to running their select program at the same level," said Tenney. "BYHA has an outstanding reputation in the community and we have been looking for an opportunity to join the Wild and BYHA within the Biddeford Ice Arena in a harmonious way."
