Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Maine defeated Cape Cod in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

Maine overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Maine trailed 2-0 after a goal by Cape Cod\’s Jordy Knoren at 7:54 in the second period. Maine tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Charles Antoine Malenfant at 19:59 in the third period.
Drew Sommerhof had a great game for Maine, netting two goals. Sommerhof found the back of the net short handed 9:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cape Cod and again while 10:05 into the second to make the score 2-2.
Maine\’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Cape Cod power plays. Maine kept Cape Cod\’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Kevin Belanger made 28 saves on 33 shots. Maine could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.
Maine additionally got points from Zach Gagne, who also registered one goal and one assist. Maine also got a goal from Drew Lupardo as well. Other players who recorded assists for Maine were Spence Cowand, who had one and Noel Fischer and Matt Henderson, who contributed two each.
Cape Cod forced Maine goalie Lucas Osborne to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.
Cape Cod also got points from Eric Szeker, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Chris Harris also scored for Cape Cod. In addition, Cape Cod received assists from Colton Hutton, who had one and Jean Sebastien Dufort and Colton Hart, who contributed two each.
Maine\’s Osborne stopped 34 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Maine registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Cape Cod incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
