The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), in cooperation with the NAHL, has announced a new location for the 2019 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament, which will be held from February 18-19, 2019 at the New England Sports Village in Attleboro, Massachusetts, the home of the NAHL’s Northeast Generals.
The NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament will be played in conjunction with the NAHL’s Top Prospects Tournament. The event is one of the most highly-scouted events of its kind, with hundreds of junior, NCAA and NHL scouts expected in attendance this season.
“The NAHL, along with our players, owners, and coaches, wanted to enhance and increase our exposure to the 34 NCAA Division I schools and 57 NCAA Division III schools in the East and we have that now with this new and exciting relocation of the Top Prospects Tournament. As a result, the NA3HL not only has the continued value of all the exposure from the NAHL Central Scouting and December’s NA3HL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota, but now in addition, the NA3HL Top Prospects will be Tournament showcased in the East with the NAHL. It continues to reemphasize that that NA3HL provides more opportunity to its players to be seen by junior and college coaches and scouts than any other league of its kind,” said NAHL Commissioner and President Mark Frankenfeld.
“This is another great example of collaborative effort between the NA3HL and the NAHL when it comes to our event structure and scouting. We have the common goal of creating an enhanced level of play and competition that is focused on a player’s development and advancement,” continued Frankenfeld. “This provides a great opportunity for 120 of the best players in the NA3HL to not only play in front of hundreds of NCAA scouts, but also all 24 NAHL head coaches and teams, along with NAHL Central Scouting.”
The NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament is another great example of the cooperative relationship and ladder of development between the NA3HL and NAHL. The fact remains that when it comes to Tier III junior leagues, no other league has had more movement and advanced more players onto play in the NAHL than the NA3HL. Through the NAHL’s vast resources for development and exposure, like the annual Top Prospects Tournament, the NA3HL provides a worthy path for players to grow, on and off the ice, while being showcased in front of the entire junior, college and professional scouting community.
The NA3HL continues to make their mark in advancement of players to the NAHL in 2018-19. To start the season 40 NA3HL alumni were listed on NAHL rosters. In addition, a total of 51 former NA3HL players played in the NAHL during the 2017-18 regular season. The NA3HL is also the only league that has an exclusive NAHL tendering system available only to NA3HL players. The NA3HL also saw over 150+ college commitments in 2017-18, with almost 70% of those being NCAA commitments.
During the 2019 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament, 120 total players from the NA3HL will be spread amongst six divisional teams, who will play in three games each during the event. The event will feature teams that represent the six divisions in the NAHL: Central, Coastal, Frontier, Northeast, South, and West. Each of the teams will consist of a 20-man roster (12 forwards, 6 defensemen, 2 goaltenders). Each team will play two games at the event.
Two more NA3HL Top Prospects teams made up of players 18-years-old or younger will take part in a special 18U Top Prospects Tournament during the NAHL’s Robertson Cup National Championship in May in Blaine, Minnesota.
